Moderation Policy

Effective September 13, 2026

Candy Scout uses structured community reports and verified local-event sources. This policy explains what we review and what action we may take when information is inaccurate, abusive or creates a privacy or safety concern.

What we moderate

  • Scout-area votes and reports that affect aggregate scores;
  • event listings, dates, venues, links and organizer information;
  • support submissions involving privacy, safety or abuse;
  • accounts or activity patterns that appear manipulative or automated.

Reasons we may take action

We may act when content or activity appears fraudulent, intentionally misleading, spammy, harassing, privacy-invasive, unsafe, unlawful, technically abusive or inconsistent with Candy Scout's Scout-area reporting model.

We may also correct or remove an event when the organizer changes, cancels or disputes a listing, or when we can no longer verify the underlying source.

Actions we may take

  • correct or unpublish an event listing;
  • exclude suspicious reports or votes from scoring;
  • reduce the visibility of unreliable information;
  • rate-limit, restrict or disable abusive accounts or devices;
  • preserve information when reasonably necessary for investigation or legal compliance.

How reviews work

Reports are reviewed using the context available to us, which can include timestamps, pseudonymous account activity, repeated patterns, organizer sources and information supplied through support.

Moderation decisions are risk-based. We do not promise that every report will be reviewed immediately or that automated abuse controls will detect every problem.

Event verification

We prefer event information published by the organizer, venue or another authoritative source. A "Verified" label means Candy Scout found a credible source supporting the listing; it is not an endorsement or guarantee by Candy Scout.

Privacy and sensitive information

Candy Scout may remove or restrict information that identifies a child, reveals an unnecessary precise live location, exposes private residential information or otherwise creates a disproportionate privacy or safety risk.

Appeals and corrections

If you believe we removed, restricted or listed something incorrectly, use the help and reporting page and include enough context for us to identify the neighborhood event or account activity involved.

Law-enforcement and legal requests

Candy Scout generally has limited identifying account information because beta accounts are pseudonymous. We respond to valid legal process as required by applicable law and may preserve information when legally required.

Urgent safety instructions are maintained on the support page rather than repeated here.
